Abundant Bible Reading

The Gospels can be described as eyewitness accounts of the 'Jesus event.' We do not have on-site photos, CCTV, or audio recordings of the Jesus event from 2,000 years ago. Fortunately, we have been given the testimonies of four eyewitnesses to the Jesus event. The four Gospels are the only source providing access to the 'Jesus event' from 2,000 years ago.

There are several benefits to comparing and analyzing the four Gospels. First, we can access the reality of the 'Jesus event.' Second, we can see the event in three dimensions through four different perspectives. Third, we can understand it holistically and take one step closer to the richness of the gospel. Fourth, we can discover what each of the four Gospel writers emphasized, find the characteristics of each Gospel, and see and hear the message more clearly.

When we comparatively analyze and integrate the four Gospels, the testimonies of the authors become the key that opens the door of truth. It is the key to entering the treasure house of the gospel of Jesus.

The lecture topic, "The Buried Jesus," is confessed importantly in the Apostles' Creed and various confessions of faith. The story of Jesus' birth is recorded only by Matthew and Luke. In contrast, Jesus' burial is recorded in all four Gospels. We have received much grace by learning and meditating on Jesus' birth, death on the cross, and resurrection. In comparison, we have not dealt much with the 'Buried Jesus.' Between the death on the cross and the resurrection, there is the burial. Through the Buried Jesus, our faith can become deeper.

An orchestra can be enjoyed much more deeply and colorfully when we can recognize the sound of each instrument and hear the harmony of the entire music. Through this study, I pray that the four Gospels will be heard like an orchestra performance, and that we will be able to enjoy the richness of the biblical message through the four Gospels.
